Things are rolling

in

Things are finally rolling in terms of construction. The permits were approved on Monday and today the first crew showed up to grind the concrete floors. These guys did not have an easy job as there was some old nasty tiles and lots of glue that had seeped into the pores of the concrete foundation over the years. But fueled by some Ozo Coffee that Justin had brewed up complimentary early this morning, these guys were still going strong when I returned to check on them after 8 hours on the grinder. I sure hope they're not still over their grinding as I write this but they did still have the kitchen to go when I left at 6:30.

If you're in Boulder (or Denver) and you need some concrete floors, give these fine fellas a call - Surface Prep Technology and Equipment.

I just missed the photo of this guy working on the last bits of old tile in the kitchen. Everyone who had been coming through the kitchen wondered why this bit of tile was still here. Well, let me tell you, this is a big guy, with a large power tool and it took him some effort to get those tiles up - that's why they've been passed over by everyone else. Calm, cool and collected though, he took them out.

As I left they had finished 90% of the work Randy here was working on the area he dreaded the most - the mastic glue that had seeped into the porous concrete up front and in the kitchen. Nasty stuff.

You know what I loved about Randy (pictured above)? He has a dirty job in the sense that dust is all over the place, he's working with a difficult substance, and there's nothing glamorous about what he's doing - it's tough work. Regardless though he got excited when talking about grinding concrete and all the different tools he has at his disposal and he was excited to show me how the concrete should properly react if he's doing the right thing. I really appreciate that enthusiasm, especially when someone who I don't know from Adam is coming into our space to perform some work. It's one thing to show up and trudge through a job, put in your time to make a few bucks. But I'm psyched when I'm working with people who are excited to be doing whatever work it is they're doing whether it be plumbing or electric or landscaping or design or woodworking. It's infectious and makes me that much more excited to involve all these different people. Let's just hope it doesn't start and stop with Randy and his crew.
